Why Honest Realtors and Loan Officers Deserve a Standing Ovation (Not Just Commission)

Let’s get one thing straight: Buying a home is a big deal. We’re talking Beyoncé headlining Coachella–level big. So why do some real estate and mortgage professionals treat it like closing a cell phone contract?

Here’s the truth bomb no one wants to drop: The desire to “close a deal” should never outweigh the duty to keep it real with the client. Your realtor and loan officer aren’t just your hype squad—they’re your guides through one of the biggest financial moves of your life. And if they’re not setting realistic expectations, you might end up with a reality check that hits harder than Texas summer heat.

The Communication Game: Say It With Your Chest!

Transparent communication isn’t just a professional skill—it’s a moral obligation. Whether it’s about what you can actually afford (spoiler alert: it’s not always what you want), the condition of a house, the increase on taxes for new builds, or how the financing works, honesty should always come before the hustle.

If your loan officer is giving vague answers or your agent is more focused on posting your new keys to their Instagram than actually walking you through the process, it’s time to reevaluate. Because this isn’t just a deal—it’s your life.

Stay in Your Lane

We love confidence. But here’s where it gets messy: some professionals try to do too much. Your realtor should NOT be your credit repair specialist unless they’re certified or have years of experiences with consistent results. Your loan officer isn’t your CPA, financial advisor, or your cousin with “money advice.”

Let’s break it down:

  • A loan officer (like me 👋🏾) helps you figure out your mortgage options, reviews your credit reports, and helps get your home financing in order.
  • A realtor helps you find and negotiate on the property.
  • A credit repair specialist, CPA, or financial advisor? That’s their own lane—and they studied long and hard to stay in it.

And if your agent or lender starts giving advice way outside their scope? Politely smile, nod… and then go ask a pro who actually does that for a living.

Recent Reality Check (aka The 2025 Vibe Check)

Data shows that homebuyers are getting smarter, and transparency is the No. 1 trait they want from their real estate team (even more than a good rate—yes, really). Why? Because with interest rates bouncing around like a toddler on a sugar rush and property prices doing gymnastics, people want the truth—served up straight.

A clear “here’s what you can really afford” will always trump a shiny sales pitch. And let’s be honest, no one wants to hear “Oops, we didn’t know that’d be an issue” two weeks before closing.
